New Mexico should be coming into this game feeling really good. Taking down three NCAA tournament teams in their conference tournament. Beating San Diego State 68-61 in the championship. Everything’s coming together at the right time for this team. They average just over 81 points a game and a big reason for that is how fast they play. Not only do they do that, but their defense has been outstanding, holding other teams to only 71 points a game.
The clemson tigers
You never really know with Clemson. When they’re on they can look like one of the best. But when they’re off, they can look like one of the worst. In their last game against Boston College, they were only able to score 55 points and ended up losing by 21. They average 77 points a game but on the other side of the ball they’re giving up 71 points a game. Allowing the other team to score 75+ the past three games. They can score, and they hardly ever turn the ball over. They just need to figure it out on defense.
Prediction
Somehow Clemson did enough during the season to get a bid into the tournament. Which is awesome, but I just don’t think they have enough to handle this New Mexico team that I don’t think going to slow down anytime soon. This is a team I think can make a pretty deep run in this tournament. The Tigers won’t be able to keep up. With their fastbreak style of play, and the amount of points New Mexico has been scoring I don’t think they’ll have a problem running it up against this Clemson defense. Giving up over 70 points and having a hard time scoring 70 points. This will be a short trip for the Tigers.
